Event Details

“Science tells us what is and, given certain parameters, what will come to be. Spiritual values teach us what ought to be. Only the two, working together, can see us safely through this perilous time.”

- Mardi Tindal and the Hon. David MacDonald, from "An Open Letter to All Canadians on Faith and Climate Change"

Please join us for a roundtable discussion on climate science and spiritual values with:

The Most Reverend Colin Johnson (Archbishop of Toronto),

Mardi Tindal (Moderator, United Church of Canada),

The Rev. Dr. Herb Gale (Moderator, Presbyterian Church in Canada), and

Dr. Danny Harvey (IPCC climate scientist, University of Toronto).

Dr. Harvey will present on the latest climate science and the consequences of inaction.  The Anglican Church of Canada, the United Church of Canada, and the Presbyterian Church in Canada are leading the way on climate change action, and have developed strong positions on climate change.  Mardi Tindal, Dr. Rev. Herb Gale, and Archbishop Colin Johnson will discuss the ethical demands that the science makes of us as people of faith, their churches' positions on climate change, what they are prepared to do to meet the demands of the climate science and their spiritual values, and possible opportunities for collaboration between faith communities.

This event will also feature the launch of the Anglican Foundation's "Faith and Protecting the Environment" Fund.  Judy Rois of the Anglican Foundation, will join us to talk about this exciting new fund that will support environmental projects of education, creation care, and environmental engagement and citizenship in the Anglican Church of Canada.  You can make a difference by contributing financially to this new ground-breaking fund.
